I have fallen off writing and posting every day. I believe there are several reasons for this. I may have a thought or question that’s interesting, but only because it is something I don’t know or can’t answer. That requires research, and most often more than I can do in one day. I’m also in a time crunch with the weather and need to knock off some home projects before it gets too cold. Then there are the emergency projects that crop up, like this weekend, when I discovered the dryer vent is plugged and the dryer lint assembly inside the dryer needs to be removed and cleaned. I also found that the foam seals around the vent assembly need replacing. The parts and cleaning brushes are on order, so I have to wait before I can work on it.
I spent the better part of last week working on a storage project I started last year but stalled when the weather got cold. I had all summer to work on it but didn’t. Each summer day came and went with the promise that I would start it tomorrow. Part of it was also that I needed to build and mount drawers. I didn’t know how to, and I’m still a bit fuzzy on it. It doesn’t help that I made the faces and backs too small and had to buy more plywood to fix my mistake. I also never had a plan for how to build what I wanted. I just had a thought of what I wanted and how it should look. I’m trying to make a storage bin cabinet with cabinet doors to hide the bins, plus a center bank of drawers. I’ve done doors before, but I decided to do drawers in a way I have never done before. Inspired by YouTube woodworking videos. So inspired that it is still unfinished.
I also need to rebuild the doors for our shed. That is more involved than I originally expected. So that is only partly done, and I only have the rest of the week to finish it before it gets too cold. I also have to wax both cars before the weather changes.
My wife ran a half marathon yesterday and had a great race. She reached her time goal and came in second for her age group. I’m also a triathlon coach, so I helped her by setting up a 6-week training plan. She had her best race at that distance since the pandemic. So we both experienced some success. She, more than I. But I will take what I can get.
So I had some things to write about. But who wants to read about the projects I have been procrastinating on for the past few years?
The Substack I subscribe to has a writing sprint starting today. I haven’t touched my novel in over a month. Do I start again today? What will make this time stick? Do I give up on writing altogether? There’s always tomorrow.
